For Microsoft XP and older:
Welcome and I'm going to teach you the basics of making a screenshot.
1: First press Prt Scrn on your keyboard:

2: Open microsoft paint in Your start menu>> All programs> and accessories.

3: Press Control V on your keyboard or just to to Edit at the top and paste it. An example is posted above

4: Then Edit it or Crop it if you like.Crop Tutorial:

5: Finally go to File>>Save As>>And then in the box that pops up change the "Save Type" to PNG or JPG.
