High in the jutting mountains of Eylsar; a creature of legend
lay dormant. Not tourist trap legend like Bigfoot, but a fearsome
creature. Its jaws could easily rip apart all of the king’s horses, and
its claws -sharp as a witty scholar- could tear through a knight’s armor
as if it was a poorly-mended-hand-me-down-sweater. The ruby red scales
that covered its body were so shiny that it would make a child with ADD
get distracted from over twenty five miles away. This fearsome creature
was a dragon. It was one of the last few remaining dragons still living
above ground. After the king proclaimed a bounty on all dragons they
decided to be civil and not destroy the peasants’ farms, but descend
underground instead. A few resisted and ended up trampling a few good
knights, but all was for naught. Once the rogue dragons were killed,
they were shipped off to make delightful dragon skin rugs for rich
people’s homes. The bounty hunters who killed them were paid a gaudy
amount of coins, which most of them used to treat themselves to a bit of
alone time with the big breasted mistress..es..ses..
The ruby red dragon, perched high above the kingdom, snorted with
disgust and withdrew into his cave where he curled up and fell into a
deep sleep.
Twenty years had passed since the onslaught and the world was in
temporary peace. Forty thousand miles below the dragon’s cave, nestled
in between two hills, stood the town of Hordespar. From a distance it
looked like a small, quaint village which could be easily overrun by two
unruly teenagers with a few torches. Upon closer inspection one would
find the triple barred wall, heaps of weaponry, muscular men and women,
and an intricate underground passageway. The denizens of Hordespar
humbly worked the land and slaughtered woodland creatures for their
pelts and delicious meat.
It was the middle of summer, and on that particular day an unusually
tall boy was exploring the underground tunnels with some difficulty.
